Healthy Smoothies for Every Color of the Rainbow

Eye-catching color pops sometimes look good enough to eat. And no, we’re not talking about gnawing into your wall because of the avocado green paint you chose. Instead, we’re here to offer up some of our favorite ingredients to visually brighten up your morning, evening or anywhere-in-between smoothie recipes.

After all, they say as long as you’re eating colorful, you’re eating well!

The great thing about smoothies is that they can range anywhere from surprisingly simple to shockingly complex. So, whether you want something quick and fuss-free or an elaborate secret ingredient power blend, we hope these colorful suggestions will help you achieve your smoothie dreams.

A great smoothie starts with a single (or a few) base ingredients such as:

  • Almond, soy, or other alternative milks for creamy texture
  • Yogurt (vanilla is our favorite) to thicken your blend
  • Ice offers a cool and crunchy element to the mix
  • Frozen bananas can deliver all the before mentioned benefits with an added kick of nutrients and flavor

After that, you can focus on nailing the taste—and look—you want!

Red

For when you want to add a little visual drama, consider using raspberries, strawberries, pomegranate juice, or beets.

Orange

Capture a vibrant tone that just screams Vitamin C, with the help of orange and/or carrot juice.

Yellow

Bananas create a soft pastel tone, while mangoes and pineapples deliver a punchy, sunshine yellow.

Green

Adding leafy plants like kale or spinach can turn your smoothie green, though we suggest adding in something like an apple for flavor! Matcha powder is another great way to go green with your drink, that, and skipping out on a plastic straw.

Blue/Purple

Create the last color of the rainbow with blueberries, blackberries, or boysenberries!
