How to Throw a Galentine's Party Everyone Will Love

Being alone on Valentine’s Day sucks. We know it. You know it.

Even if you are in a relationship, you can help your friends avoid loneliness and have lots of fun by hosting your own Galentine's party! I know what you are thinking. That sounds like a lot of work and it can be hard to make sure everyone has a good time. Luckily, we have assembled a list of ways to throw the perfect party that (almost) everyone will enjoy.

Curate an invite list that will actually be fun

Don’t feel obligated to invite anyone. This is your party and you are in charge. We would suggest leaving out the cutesy couples that are totally going to kill the single and happy vibe. Single friends don’t want to see a cuddly couple on the holiday that celebrates PDA.

Try to choose people who are still going to be positive on a day that doesn’t cater to everyone’s relationship status. You don’t need the friend who is going to mope around and remind everyone how sad they are about the recent breakup or their eternal single state.

And also, invite people from different friend groups. Chances are, if a single person is going to a party on Valentine’s they want to meet new single people. Inviting everyone you regularly attend karaoke with on Thursday nights defeats the purpose.

Keep in mind the group you are inviting to decide how many should be involved. Introverts will appreciate a smaller gathering while extroverts are constantly needing stimulation from new people.

Plan fun themed activities that many will enjoy

Pick games based on the people you invited. Everyone has a different idea of the perfect party game, but here are some of our ideas:

Romcom trivia: Find a bunch of fun facts from your favorite romantic comedies and see who knows (or has seen the most). If you are really extra, you could even pull clips from each movie to reveal the answer.

Classified cupid exchange: Think secret Santa or white elephant with a twist. Create a rule that everyone has to follow to see how creative people can get. Think money limit, can only be found in the house, only pink or red items, etc.

Photobooth: Find a bunch of cute props for you and your friends to take pictures with. Put up a sparkly backdrop that will make the photos shine. And then watch the likes come streaming in for your incredible party.

Decorate & bake to your heart's content  (and no more)

Pick a few colors to decorate with. We suggest gold and red for a sophisticated party or pink and white for a cute vibe. Have fun with the table settings. And don’t forget the candles. No party celebrating the most romantic day of the year is complete without a plethora of candles.

*Quick note on candles: First of all, pick one scent and stick with it. No one wants an overwhelmingly smelly gathering. Second, check your fire alarm to make sure its working. Just in case.

Food is simple. Pick a few chocolatey desserts. If you are feeling in-over-your-head, ask guests to bring a dish they would have made for bae. You’ll end up with a mixture of delicious foods that everyone will appreciate. For a particularly sassy element, serve themed beverages.

BONUS TIP:

A perfect party can be ruined in minutes with the wrong tune. Play some happy, fun jams about friendship and #singlelife. Let's stay away from love songs (they will make everyone feel sad or awkward) or angry anti-love songs (they will make everyone feel worse). Maybe stick to today’s top hits if you are feeling unsure.
